Interior and exterior stairs
By place of installation stairs are divided into interior and exterior.
Interior stairs are all stairs duly protected from external weather impact.
Straight and revolving stairs
By direction of axis line stairs can be conditionally divided into straight and revolving.
If axis line of stair flights does not change its direction, such stairs are called straight regardless of the presence of stair landing. These are the simplest in production and the safest in use stairs. With all their advantages, straight stairs due to their length can occupy much space in premises.
If axis line changes its direction, such stairs are called revolving. Revolving stairs can be right-side and left-side depending on direction of axis line.
Selection of the turn of stairs depends on layout of premises and it is chosen individually in each particular case.
Quarter-turn, half-turn and circular stars
Depending on the angle of turn stairs can be quarter-turn, half-turn and circular.
Revolving stairs are made for economy of useful area of the building. But turns reduce convenience in using the stair and safety of movement, that is why people try to reduce number of turns to minumum. Revolving stairs without landings are made with turn treads. They are steps interior side of which is narrower than exterior side. Normal width of the step in this case is observed only in its central part along axis line of stairs.
Circular stairs
Circular stairs with 360° turn are less convenient than stairs with straight flights, and it is rarely used as the main one. In most cases circular stairs are mounted in addition to the main ones or in places with little movement intensity.
Stairs in apartments
Modern industrial buildings are often made two- and three-levelled. Besides, there are multi-storey buildings with duplex apartments. Presence of such apartments provides construction of stairs inside the apartment.
